You don’t have to be a loner or an introvert to enjoy time alone. But there are circumstances when you cannot afford to be by yourself no matter how badly you want.
However huge extrovert you are, some introvert characters can always be of great help. Here are some benefits of being by yourself that I value:
1. Self-reflection.
You get to reflect on yourself. Have you ever tried talking to yourself? Most people do, and you likely do it too. If not, try. Talk to yourself about
- The decision you made today. Was it the best decision?
- The advice you gave someone – Should you have told something else or something more?
- The food you had for lunch – Was it good, should you have eaten something else?
These things don’t naturally come to you. For me, it happens involuntarily when I am deeply into something.
For example, when I am working on a project or when I have to finish something on time.
I talk to myself about the procedure of doing things, the options I have, the probable outcomes, and the pros and cons of things. And that helps a lot.
2. Free from Judgement
Nobody judges you when you are alone even mentally. When you talk to yourself, you don’t seek answers from someone else.
When you happen to make a bad decision, it will be you who will be telling yourself about it. But you have to know that the decision you made when you are alone is all yours and you cannot blame someone or the situation because you chose to be alone.
3. The Silence.
There is some noise everywhere – even in the quietest places like a library. The whole world is a busy place and we deserve some silence. Being alone is being in peace. It is like a meditation.
4. Organizing thought
You don’t tend to think straight when you are with others. Believe it or not, there is some influence when you have company.
You get time to think with no influence or prejudice when you are by yourself. You get time to think straight, organize your thoughts, and make rational decisions.
